The gift to us in the resurrected Christ is by far more than many can comprehend. As Christ fulfilled the prophecies of old throughout the Old Testament combining them in an act of gracious obedient love. And it lifted us from sin and death and purchased us to belong to him through his blood sacrifice, paying the price once and for an eternity so we could under God his father’s choice belong to him. It is a question of understanding the importance in our physical realm and in the Spiritual real that God places on blood. In the Old Testament, it is used to designate the life principle. Look at Leviticus 17:11 (NIV). For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life. The gift to us in the resurrected Christ. When the disciples saw, Jesus crucified, they thought their world had fallen apart, Jesus their Messiah had been taken from them, and was humiliated and brutally tortured and then crucified, and there they saw him die and be laid in a new tomb. Even though Jesus told them of his impending death and coming resurrection, it never sank in and they simply did not believe him. They were confused and their world had come basically to an end. Incredibly it was not the men who Jesus appeared to first. In his time women were treated as second class it was the cultural belief of that day. And Jesus used this and appeared to the women first. And not just a woman of special high standing, he appeared to Mary Magdalene who stood outside the tomb crying on discovering Jesus her beloved friend was no longer there. John 20:11-18. (NIV). Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, ‘Woman, why are you crying?’ They have taken my Lord away,’ she said, ‘and I don’t know where they have put him.’ At this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realise that it was Jesus. He asked her, ‘Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for? Thinking he was the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.” She turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni’ (which means ‘Teacher’). Jesus said, ‘Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” Mary Magdalen went to the disciples with the news; ‘I have seen the Lord!’ And she told them that he had said these things to her.) Jesus was the Firstborn uniting heaven and earth. And God placed him above all names. He is our cornerstone and we are the body of the church of God gifted through Christ Jesus. And as we have a choice of life or death.
